Beechwood College, first of its kind in Wales specialist residential college for students with Aspergers and Autism

Vocational Studies

Vocational Skills for People with Autsim and AspergersStudents are able to access a range of vocationally related qualifications and awards which incorporate key skills and cover Levels1 and 2 (Foundation and Intermediate) of the National Qualifications Framework. As a College we aim to provide an array of braod vocational experiences whilst enabling progression to further education, training or employment as appropriate.

We are currently offering VGCSE Applied Art & Design Double Award, GCSE English and English Literature, AS/Advanced Art & Design, Entry Level Certificate in Life Skills and National Skills Profile.

Beechwood has close links with local colleges where a number of our students are currently accessing a range of accredited courses. Many of out students have not experience success with vocational education in previous placements. We hope to empower students to take charge of their own learning and development by encouraging them to participate in vocational education at Beechwood.

Students may also have social, behavioural and/or communication difficulties which need to be developed prior to commencing practical work experience programmes. We provide access to a full vocational learning programme to prepare students for a practical work placement. This programme includes areas such as essential social skills, health and safety, use of public transport, realistic career options and the role that they play within the community setting. Once students have developed the necessary skills, it is crucial that they are then able to make valid personal choices regarding their future aspirations and provide opportunities for these goals to be achieved
