Clinical and Psychology Services

The Psychologists at Beechwood are greatly experienced and specialise in working with clients with autistic spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, challenging behaviour and mental illness.

At Beechwood students will be able to join in a wide range of group therapies including

  • Anger and Anxiety Management
  • Social Skills Training
  • Personal Relationships and Sexuality
  • Enhanced Thinking Skills

The psychology team also work with students on an individual level and can help with:

  • Issues of Identity
  • Low self esteem and confidence
  • Fears and phobias
  • Understanding behaviour
  • Dealing with bereavement and loss

We focus on helping and supporting students and residents to develop coping stratgegies to manage their emotions and to increase their interpersonal skills and effectiveness.
We believe these are core skills that promote positive mental health, quality of life and increased independence.

Members of the Psychology team are involved in all students initial assessment meetings so that we can identify needs and how we can best help to build skills to fulfil individual student’s potential and meet their goals. Together we will agree on the help that may be needed and whether students would prefer to work with a member of the team individually and/or join some of the group programmes.
