Beechwood College, first of its kind in Wales specialist residential college for students with Aspergers and Autism

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy at Beechwood Specialist CollegeOccupational Therapy are part of the specialised integrated team that makes Beechwood so unique. They play an essential role in ensuring students with Autism or Aspergers syndrome reach their full potential.

Occupational Therapy works alongside the clinical and educational team, to assist the student in engaging in the life skills that develop their confidence in daily living.

Occupational Therapy is able to provide information and advice on students physical requirements for specialised furniture, eating and drinking equipment as well as personal care and environmental adaptations which promote greater independence.

The Lead Occupational Therapist is also available to carry out assessments based on sensory integration principles. These assessments are valuable to all the team as they give us a better understanding of how the individual is accepting and processing their sensory environment. As Therapists we are able to offer ideas and activities that help to increase the student’s sensory engagement or reduce sensory anxiety.

The sensory sessions are able to be delivered in the unique natural setting of Beechwood and are written as programmes that everyone can do.
